Abstract

StarRescue is a two-player collaborative tablet game that aims to enhance autistic children’s social skills. It augments children’s attention paying to others, perspective-taking, and negotiation by visualizing the turn-taking collaboration process. It contributes to the HCI community by successfully designing and developing a game following prior proposed collaboration patterns, verifying the effectiveness of game mechanics such as turn-taking and role-playing with a 40-children study, and offering game design implications for future works.
